And all the congregation of the children of Yisra’el set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the command of Yahuah, and camped in Rephidim. And there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people strove with Mosheh, and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Mosheh said to them, “Why do you strive with me? Why do you try Yahuah” And the people thirsted there for water, and the people grumbled against Mosheh, and said, “Why did you bring us out of Mitsrayim, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?” Then Mosheh cried out to Yahuah, saying, “What am I to do with this people? Yet a little and they shall stone me!” Exo 17:1-4
Now we see that they moved away from the Wilderness of Sin and did what Yahuah commanded. Let us look carefully at what follows. They could not find water and they were thirsty.Again, instead of asking for water they complained and tested Yahuah. Mosheh then cried out to Yahuah and asked what he was supposed to do because he felt that they were ready to stone him.
And Yahuah said to Mosheh, “Pass over before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Yisra’el. And take in your hand your rod with which you smote the river, and go. See, I am standing before you there on the rock in Horeb. And you shall smite the rock, and water shall come out of it, and the people shall drink.” And Mosheh did so before the eyes of the elders of Yisra’el. And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the ‘strife’ of the children of Yisra’el, and because they ‘tried’ Yahuah, saying, “Is Yahuah in our midst or not?” Exo 17:5-7
One would think that all the miracles they have witnessed up to this point that they will have no doubt that Yahuah is with them but no they are still doubting in Yahuah’s presence. How merciful is Yahuah to be so patient with the people. With us.
Remember the rock symbolizes Yeshua. Yeshua was only struck once for our sin.
May Yahuah have mercy on us.
